What is primary care?

Primary care is comprehensive medical care that treats the whole person. At Holy Family Catholic Clinic, we strive to provide care that is Christ-centered. Just as Jesus Christ came into this world not just to heal bodies but to save souls, so at Holy Family we strive to be mindful of the many dimensions of the human person: physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.

Our primary care physicians include two internists and a pediatricians. Pediatricians treat children while Internal medicine physicians, or internists, treat adults.

What services do primary care physicians provide?

Primary care physicians provide a wide range of services. They take care of acute injuries like colds and ankle sprains. They manage chronic illnesses like diabetes and high blood pressure. They help treat conditions like depression and anxiety and provide counseling for issues like weight loss and exercise.

One of the most important functions of a primary care physician is to provide preventive care. Important components include vaccinations, preventive counseling, and cancer screening. At Holy Family Catholic Clinic, we offer well-child checks, sports physicals, annual physicals, and Medicare wellness exams as part of our emphasis on prevention.

In addition to managing acute and chronic medical issues, we offer procedures such as joint and bursa injections, skin biopsies, and toenail removals. EKGs are available on site.

Why do I need a primary care physician?

Medical care can be complex. Primary care physicians help oversee and coordinate care. Many conditions can be taken care of directly by primary care physicians. For more complicated issues or for specialized procedures, primary care doctors provide referrals to specialists such as cardiologists, gastroenterologists and surgeons. Once the patient is seen by a specialist, recommendations go back to the primary care physician, who goes over the information and integrates it into the patient’s plan of care.

After a patient requires a stay in a hospital, the primary care physician will review the details of the hospitalization with the patient and make adjustments as necessary to the plan of care. If a patient requires a stay in a nursing or other facility, the primary care physician will make the necessary arrangements to coordinate care.

How do I get started?

Call the clinic and one of our primary care providers would be happy to see you for an initial visit. If you have not been seen in a while, this may be a good time to schedule an annual physical exam. If you are transferring care, then let us know and we can help arrange for medical records to be sent to our clinic.

For those who for whatever reason are not able to come into the clinic, we also offer telemedicine appointments.
